Hemp seeds can recharge your brain

Hemp seeds

Superfoods are literally moving the world these days and it should be no surprise because they contain plenty of substances which are beneficial to the human body. People usually search for various seeds and crops that somehow happened to grow far away and that is a shame, because you can get some superfoods or seeds right here. A typical example is hemp. For example, you can add few of those seeds in a plain yogurt and you will get a geyser of vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. But that is not all…

A great power in a petite seed

Hemp seeds are very small, just like the tips of your fingernails. These seeds are the so-called technical hemp so you do not need to worry that you are getting something illegal. Only a trace amount of THC, the well-known psychoactive substance, is found in these seeds so do not expect outbursts of laughs or anything else. However, your body will appreciate the nutrients found inside.

Proteins and omega fatty acids

Hemp seeds are becoming an integral part of vegetarian and vegan diets. Because these people do not eat meat they need to consume a large amount of other proteins. Just for the record, there are 9 grams of protein in 30 g of hemp seeds plus amino acids which are the basic building block of hemp seeds. You can find 20 amino acids in hemp seeds, of which 8 are classified as essential, and which the human body cannot produce by itself. These are found in animal food sources including eggs, meat, milk, cheese and others. Hemp seeds also offer the ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 acids which are known to protect the heart and blood vessels. Further, they also strengthen the brain and can increase the good cholesterol. It is the correct and healthy ratio between individual nutrients that makes hemp seeds a superfood.

You can get hemp seeds peeled or unpeeled

You can buy peeled or unpeeled hemp seeds in many health food stores these days. Unpeeled seeds contain larger amount of fibre, which is found in the skin, but it is rather difficult to consume unpeeled seeds. To do so, soak the seeds in water for about 10 hours. Unpeeled seeds still contains enough beneficial substances and you do not need to soak them in water. The optimal amount you should consume per day is about 2 spoons. You can put them in your smoothies, yogurts, salads or in any dish you like.
