Pool cleaning after winter: A lengthy but necessary procedure

pool

Did you look in your pool after a long winter and discovered something that looked like a fishpond, or even worse, something like a septic tank? You probably know what we are talking about. Even if you use many chemicals for pool winterization, the quality of water will not be acceptable and you will not be able to simply jump into your pool and swim. Well, this is the best time to clean your pool. Many people just clean and treat the water with chemicals, while others drain their pool completely and fill it with freshwater. It mainly depends on the size of your pool. We shall introduce both methods in more detail and you can also watch a video clip where we actually cleaned our pool.

If you have a large in-ground pool, draining and refilling your pool with fresh water does not really make any sense

If you have an in-ground pool at home that holds more than 10m³ of water , do not drain it completely. It would take a long time and it is rather expensive. The best solution is to keep water at a reduced level and use suitable chemicals. Many people use bluestone (copper sulphate) and then simply turn on the filtration system. Then theybalance the pH , treat the weather with appropriate chemicals, and that is it. Sometimes people use large doses of chlorine (shock dosage) to kill all living organisms. In any case, you should always thoroughly filter the water and vacuum the bottom of the pool several times. If the bottom is heavily soiled, drain water directly out of the pool and do not run the water through the filter system. When done, refill the pool with fresh water.

Small pools should be drained completely

Do you only have a smaller pool such as Marimex Orlando or Mountfield Azuro pool at home? Then you can drain the entire pool. We were cleaning Orlando pool with a diameter of 3.6 meters. First, we have pumped out as much water as possible and then we cleaned the bottom of the pool. While the water was being pumped out, we cleaned the walls. The result was really good and the pool was spotless. Well, watch the following video and judge for yourself.

You cannot do without chemicals

If you are fond of natural swimming do not buy a swimming pool! You have no chance but to use a lot of chemicals! You can also order chlorine-free pool chemicals. Links are available at our site.
