Onion peel is an antioxidant and has very strong anti-allergic properties. But that’s not all. They is much more to onions than meets the eye, so to speak.

Quercetin is important substance in onion peel.Studies have confirmed that a regular intake of quercetin helps strengthen the cardiovascular system and reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack.

Few women are aware of the fact that if you cook the entire onion, that is together with the skin in soup, the colour of the broth will be much nicer but also tastier and lastly, much healthier. With the help of substances that are released from the skin the good stuff will not be destroyed by cooking.

Onion skin can help your indoor plants too

If you notice that your plants are not doing well, you may want to call onions to the rescue.Add few of them to the soil where they will act as additional nutrition. It is recommended to cut peels into small pieces and then add them to the soil. Water regularly and you should see the result soon.

Onions against cramps

A great natural remedy to fight cramps is a decoction made from onion skins. Put 1 spoon of crushed peels into a bowl and pour 1 cup of boiling water over them and let it sit for 10 minutes. Drink approximately 200 ml of this broth every evening. Tea made from onion skin is also used to fight sore throats, flu or cold.

Onion skins are great if you want to improve the colour of your hair – brownish gold colour is the one you will get. People used onion skins for hair dyeing since the ancient times. Take 1 cup of onion skins and pour in one litre of water. Cook for about 1 hour. Now, wash your hair well with the extract, cover with plastic wrap and leave it on for an hour. When done, wash your hair as normal. Warning note: expect that your hair to smell like onions for a while… But hey, it is a natural smell, right?

If you love homemade bread, you should try a great trick that experienced housewives use when baking bread. Add 1 teaspoon of crushed onion skins to the bread batter. Onion skins will give the bread a beautiful aroma and nicer colour. 

Onion peels against skin diseases?

Onion skins are a great helper if you want to support skin disease treatment. Diseases such as dermatitis, abrasions, skin irritation or corns .Mix chopped onion skins with ordinary lard in 2:3 ratio and apply this ointment to the affected areas twice a day and watch it heal.
