Make the best blackberries chutney
Chutney comes from India or rather from the Indian cuisine. It is a preserve made from fruit, vegetables, spices, vinegar and sugar and herbs. You can use various types of fruit (seasonal fruit) and vegetables but onions are probably the most common ingredient. Chutney with seasonal fruit is served all year round. In addition to blackberry chutney, you can also find tomato, mango, mint, orange or even peanut chutney.
What is chutney served with?
In India, chutney is served with everything – just like children in Europe put ketchup on everything. They put it on pasta, eggs, bread with butter, etc. and indeed Indian people eat chutney with any dish. It goes well with rice, various types of local breads or even curry dishes. In Europe, people serve it with cheese plates, roasted or grilled meat, fish and sausages. You can make chutney very spicy or mild – just like a marmalade. Simply put, chutney is loved by everybody.

Blackberries to boost your health
Blackberries are amazing and have a very positive effect on our health. They are a big source of vitamin C, which is a very powerful antioxidant and helps remove potentially harmful toxins from our body. Vitamin C also prevents certain diseases and supports skin regeneration and iron absorption. Blackberries are high in fibre and support proper functioning of the digestive system. Fibre makes you regular and makes you less hungry and nourishes beneficial bacteria that live in the intestines. Blackberries are also rich in vitamin K, which is necessary for proper blood coagulation.
Blackberry chutney
There are many basic recipes and you can add whatever you like to the basic ones. If you want to make a spicy chutney, add chilli peppers or chilli spices, coarsely crushed pepper, etc. You can sweeten chutney with sugar or honey and add different types of herbs, such as thyme, lemon balm, mint or rosemary. Spices such as cloves, star anise or cinnamon also work well. Here is a basic chutney recipe which you may use as a solid base. You need the following:
- 500 g blackberries,
- 140 g red onion, cut into thin strips,
- 140 g cane sugar,
- 3 tablespoons of chopped fresh ginger,
- 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard,
- 150 ml white wine vinegar,
- salt and pepper.
Mix all ingredients except the vinegar, salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil and then add salt and pepper to your taste preference. Now, pour in the vinegar and simmer for about 10 minutes. Fill clean glasses with the mixture, close them tightly and turn them upside down. Wait for chutney to cool down and serve.
