Vegetables that dogs enjoy
Dogs are not exactly carnivores and their diet should not be based entirely on meat. Every good owner wants to give his dog a well-balanced diet to make sure his dog is happy and healthy. But too often people make mistakes due to lack of knowledge. If you own a dog, you know that dogs munch on vegetables sometimes, but is it right to add vegetable into dog’s feed? Can a dog eat vegetables?
Not entirely carnivores
Dogs are indeed called carnivores but they have changed their habits over time. While the original canines only ate meat, modern dogs have evolved and can also eat other foods than meat. Dogs are able to digest plant products but not only that – some vegetables and plant products are beneficial for dogs, as they provide valuable vitamins and fibre, which function in the same way as in humans. Fibre supports the digestive system.
Vegetables for dogs
However, not all vegetables are suitable for dogs and some may even harm them. Dogs are not able to digest all types of veggies, and some may cause flatulence and stomach problems. Some may even be toxic to dogs. If you include vegetables in your dog’s diet you should do so to provide fibre to support intestinal function and prevent constipation. Take celery for example. It has a diuretic effect and helps eliminate toxins and vitamins, strengthen the immunity system and help lower blood pressure.

Veggies suitable for dogs
So, what types of vegetables can dogs eat? Well, carrots, beetroot, parsley (both the root and the greens) celery, red pepper, cucumbers, pumpkin. You can cook them or you can give it raw. Remember that cooking reduces the nutritional value of vegetables but it improves the digestibility. Cook vegetables for puppies and old dogs. Do not use any salt or seasoning when cooking. A tip. Let the water where you cooked veggies cool down and water your flowers with it.
Raw vegetables
Raw and hard vegetables like carrots or beets will provide the most nutrients, but also help your dog to clean its teeth. If your dog cannot handle raw vegetables, cut it into smaller pieces or grate it.
Unsuitable vegetables
You should definitely know which vegetables you should not.. href=”https://www.nasezahrada.com/skladovani-psiho-krmiva-v-lete-vyvarujte-se-chyb-jinak-pejskovi-ublizite/”>psům podávat …give to your dog. For example, potatoes. They do not have many nutrients and can overload your dog’s digestive system. Onions, garlic, chives and leeks contain substances that are toxic to dogs. Tomatoes, especially unripe, can even be a life-threatening situation! Dogs may have a very strong allergic reaction to tomatoes. Spinach, sorrel (Rumex acetosa) and rhubarb contain oxalic acid, which can cause urinary system problems. Cruciferous vegetables and legumes cause flatulence and reduce the ability to absorb nutrients.
