Baking soda

Baking soda is a common substance used to fight all types of moulds in flower pots. People have been using baking soda for this purpose since 1933. At that time it was mainly used as a common cure for roses. Mix baking soda with water and pour it over the mould. This creates a chemical reaction which breaks the cell walls of the fungus, the walls will rupture, and the mould dies. To increase the effectiveness, add oil and soap to the mixture. This will help soda to better adhere to the plant. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of oil, and 1 teaspoon of Castile soap in 3.5 litres of water. Use once a week.

Milk

Pour 1 part of milk and 9 parts water into a spray bottle and mix well. Spray leaves and stems once a week to prevent mould formation . Do not use more milk in the mixture because milk is an organic substance and may promote development of other moulds.

Garlic

We all know that garlic has antiviral, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. You can make a garlic spray to fight mould. Crush few cloves of garlic and put it in a glass.Pour oil and alcohol (one part of oil and one part of alcohol) over crushed cloves. Make sure the garlic is completely submerged and let it sit for a few days. Strain the garlic mixture through a fine cloth. Add one tablespoon of Castile soap mix everything in 3.5 litres of water and pour it into a spray bottle. Garlic also deters insects.

Vinegar

Acetic acid is also use to kill mould, but you need to be careful as too much vinegar may act as an herbicide. You must dilute it. Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 3.5 litres of water and spray soil with mould once a week. A good idea is to test it on a small area first. If the mixture is too strong you may see dried-out spots on leaves after a while. If so, dilute more.
