Do not throw away cucumber peel. Used it to get rid of unwanted visitors

Cucumber

We all know that the majority of vitamins is found in the skins of fruits and vegetables. But when it comes to cucumbers we all peel the skin because it does not look good in salads, for example. Usually, we throw the skins in the trash bin or a composter, which is the better option. But there is another way how to make use of them. You can use them to get rid of unwelcome animals in your home – ants. Well, there are also other ways how to fight ants, but cucumber peels are the natural way, so why not try it.

Cucumber peels

Ants hate the smell of cucumber peels. Just stick cucumber peels where you have ants. Also, the substances contained in cucumbers are toxic to ants. Yes, toxic, so peels should be an easy way how to get rid of them…

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is another chemical that is very unpleasant to ants. It covers their own smell, which ants need to follow their smell path back to the anthill. Another benefit of lemon juice is that it is used as an efficient cleaner and it can even deal with some types of moulds and other impurities. Try putting a few drops of lemon juice on a cloth and wipe the ant paths with it. Ants will hate that.

Various aromatic scents

Basically all aromatic smells repel ants. Choose an essential oil with aroma that smells good to you and use it like a lemon juice. You can make your apartment smell good and still get rid of ants.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a great spice that reminds us of Christmas, or maybe your grandma’s strudel. If you love the smell of a cinnamon, mix two spoons of cinnamon and half a litre of water and apply it to places where you have ants.

Baking helpers

Powdered sugar, baking powder or baking soda – all these ingredients are part of various recipes and are also toxic to ants (and many other pests). You can apply these “helpers” in a powder form or mixed with water. Baking soda or baking powder are also great environment-friendly cleaners, so it should be a win-win situation.

Corn flour

Ants will eat corn flower, but they cannot digest it. Corn flower will disrupt their digestive system so much that they die.

Wine vinegar

Wine vinegar is also a great cleaner and ants hate it. So, if you add it to a bucket of water and wash your floor with it, you will scare the ants and they will leave. Or you may use the vinegar-water solution in a spray bottle and spray the floor or the ant-gathering areas.

Highly aromatic plants

Eucalyptus, thyme or basil smell great to us but not to ants. We use them in the kitchen quite often not only for their aroma but also for their positive health. But there is not positive health effect on ants.

Chalk

Chalk is a simple way to prevent ants from entering your house. If you draw a chalk line on the floor, ants will not cross it. It looks like a magic. You will not get rid of them immediately but you will be able to keep them in a confined space and eventually, they will go away.
