Mice are looking for new shelters: prevent them from settling in your garden using old wives’ remedies

Small rodents do not only move into human dwellings in the fall, but like to settle there throughout the year. They find comfort here, as well as sufficient food supplies. If you discover their presence in your garden or even in your home, immediate action is needed, as they reproduce exponentially.

Where do mice most often settle?

All small rodents, whether mice or voles, like to settle in gardens where they have easy access to water and food. Their boldness and curiosity allow them to easily climb into houses. If you have a problem with rodents around your home, consider whether you are unknowingly attracting them. Never leave any food scraps outside. Fallen and uncollected fruit from trees can also be a problem. You can easily recognize the presence of rodents by their droppings and chewed food scraps.

Get rid of rodents without chemicals

Before you go to a specialty store for chemical rodent control products, try some old wives’ remedies. Be especially careful when using poisons if you have a dog or cat at home. There is a risk that they could also be poisoned. Mice hate the smell of mint. Mint oil is ideal. Dilute it with water and use it as a natural repellent, spraying it in places where rodents are found. You can also repel them with walnut leaves and the scent of cloves, lavender, or chili peppers.

Unpleasant sound

Another way to drive mice away from your property is to use special acoustic repellents. They emit an unpleasant squeaking sound that is inaudible to the human ear but unpleasant to rodents. Again, be careful when choosing one if you have a cat, dog, or horse at home. Some repellents can be unbearable even for pets.

Small rodents also dislike drafts. If you have a garden vacuum cleaner, point it directly at the burrow and blow air into it for a long time. The mice will prefer to find another refuge.

Tip: Get rid of mice quickly and cheaply. All you need is toothpaste.
