People grow zamioculcas for its beautiful fleshy and green leaves. The plant is well-suited for modern and contemporary interiors. Growing is easy and zamioculcas can reach an impressive size. Even though growing is easy, the most common problem that people experience is leaves turning yellow. Yes, apparently for no reason, leaves start turning yellow. If you notice that you should act as soon as possible, before your plant turns completely yellow.

Brief info about zamioculcas

Zamioculcas is supposed to bring a good luck and wealth to your house. It comes from Southeast Africa, and it needs warm weather, and that is why you need to grow it only as a houseplant – it loves hot weather. It deals well with dry air and insufficient watering, which makes it very suitable for households and for beginners. The problem mentioned above usually occurs due to insufficient care.

Watering

Yellow leaves may be due to an improper watering. Zamioculcas is a succulent, so it can cope with dry periods but not with too much water. Water only once every two to three weeks in winter and once a week in summer.These are general recommendations. Always check the soil before watering. Excessive watering will cause leaf yellowing. Let the soil dry out well before the next watering. Do not spray leaves.

Location

An unsuitable spot can cause yellow leaves. Zamioculcas likes a bright location, but not direct sunlight.If you notice yellow leaves, you need to move Zamioculcas – either out of the reach of direct sunlight or out of shadow. A good idea is to rotate the plant from time to time.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is from 20 to 25 °C. In winter, the plant can handle temperatures from 16 to 18 °C. Do not expose Zamioculcas to a temperature shock. If you do, it will start turning yellow. If you ventilate in winter, make sure that the plant is not in a direct path of the draft.

Soil

The soil should be slightly acidic and well-drained. You should always create a drainage layer at the bottom of the pot to allow excess water drain easily.

Sometimes, yellow leaves may be caused by aging. This process is irreversible and you need to remove affected leaves.
