Correct watering is not enough. Increase tomato harvest with a simple trick.
You should pay extra attention to your tomatoes throughout the fruiting period. Proper care is important if you want the best tomatoes and naturally, the healthier and stronger the plant, the better the fruit. So, you should not only focus on sufficient watering, but also on additional care. Regularly tie tomatoes to prevent branch breaking. The weight of the fruit increases significantly and that puts a lot of strain on the plant.
Regular, straight or spiral supports?
You can use any stakes of course and you probably have few of them at home. No need to invest more money. You have to tie up the tomatoes regularly to prevent them from breaking, but if you use spiral supports you do not need to tie them. You just need to guide plants in the right direction and the plant will wrap itself around it. This makes your work easier. Tomato stakes usually last for years if you take care of them.

Side shoots
To increase the yield, you need to help the plant to direct as much energy as possible into the formation of fruit. This means that parts of the plant that are just growing and will not bear any fruit should be removed. These include lateral shoots which grow from the leaf axis. You should remove them early while they are small, because early removal will not hurt the plant much.. If the plant is too dense, you can remove few leaves too. This will reduce the risk of getting mould and fungal diseases.
Bush tomatoes
If you have bush tomatoes, you do not clip the side shoots! If you do, you will reduce the yield. Bush tomatoes bloom and form fruits on the side shoots and do not require support and are most often grown on balconies, terraces and in containers.
Fertilizing tomatoes
You can also increase the yield by using organic fertilizers. Fermented chicken droppings or well-aged manure are ideal. Fortunately, you can purchase these smelly fertilizers in more pleasant and less smelly forms. They come in granules, dried or liquid (which you add to your watering can). Fertilizers for tomatoes should contain plenty of potassium. You may buy a special fertilizer for tomatoes but watch for fertilizers with a large amount of nitrogen, which promotes leaf growth at the expense of fruit growth.
