Tomatoes

Gardens are getting ready for the winter and many of us started to plough but many of us still have various plants living in their gardens. For example, tomatoes. If you take care of them well and removed all leaves infected with mould, they can last until the end of October. After that you need to harvest everything, even the green unripe tomatoes. Great, but what can you do with green tomatoes? Some people say that unripe tomatoes are poisonous…

Tomatoes will ripen at home

Do not put green tomatoes on a windowsill

That is right. Tomatoes ripen from the bottom up and from the inside out. They will turn red on your windowsill, but they are not really ripe. Tomatoes should be stored in a dark room where the temperature is around 20 °C. You should also cover them with newspaper to make ripening more effective.

Leave tomatoes on the plant

If the plant still have many green tomatoes, cut off the entire part with the green tomatoes. Hang the piece of the plant upside down and tomatoes will ripen.

Place an apple near tomatoes

Apple will release ethylene and tomatoes will ripen much faster.
