Avocados

Hard avocados don’t usually soften on their own, but with this trick, you can soften them in 10 minutes. Buying avocados in stores is a bit like playing the lottery. If we come across fruits that look nice at first glance, they are very likely to be unripe or overripe. That’s why we often take the harder ones home and hope that they will ripen in the warmth of our rooms.

Unfortunately, this method is not always successful. More often than not, the avocado will start to rot from the bottom and be “ripe” just enough to throw it in the trash. But what can you do when you need to prepare avocado spread, cream, or another delicacy almost immediately? You’ll find the answer in your oven.

Let the avocado soften on a baking sheet

So if you come across a hard avocado, feel free to add it to your basket (if there aren’t any better ones available). At home, wash it well, dry it… and wrap it in aluminum foil. Place it on a baking sheet or in another suitable container.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 90 °C. No more, and if you have a convection oven, leave it off for now. Once it is hot, place the avocado inside. It doesn’t take long – just 10 minutes. However, it is worth checking the softness of the fruit regularly. Once it is soft, take it out. Don’t wait for the desired time to elapse on the kitchen timer.
Unwrap it from the foil and serve. It will be just as easy to prepare as ripe fruit. And, of course, just as tasty. Give it a try.

Baked or unbaked?

Lovers of raw food or simply fresh dishes need not worry. This is not really baking. What’s at play here is a chemical reaction caused by ethylene, which ripening fruit releases naturally. Heat and aluminum foil further enhance its effects—and wonders begin to happen in the avocado flesh. Then all that’s left to do is use this beauty in a spread or other favorite dish.
