Cauliflower leaves. Can you use them?
If you do not have pets that enjoy green leaves (for example, from cauliflower), is there anything useful you can do with them? Throwing them away would be a great shame! Yes, there are few interesting uses. They are edible and have very similar properties as the cauliflower head. You can eat leaves raw and add them to various vegetable salads. Leaves are loaded with vitamins and when eaten raw you get all the benefits.
Benefits of leaves
If you are not convinced yet, know that they are very close nutritionally, as the head. Leaves contain plenty of fiber, which is essential for proper digestion and works well against constipation or diarrhoea, positively affects blood sugar levels and makes you feel full for long timeand contains very few calories. Leaves are a good source of iron, calcium, vitamins A, C and E and have beneficial effects on our immune system, promote healthy hair, skin elasticity and bone and muscle strength. In addition to various vegetable salads, you can also use them as a garnish for sandwiches and Hors d’oeuvre plates or directly in spreads. You can also use them to prepare healthy smoothies!
Cooked cauliflower leaves
You may use cauliflower leaves as a replacement to other leaves. For example, cabbage leaves. Use cauliflower leaves to make cabbage rolls. You can also use leaves in soups and various meat broths. If you fine chop leaves even connoisseurs will not notice. Leaves are suitable for boiled, stewed or savoury dishes. You can add baked or raw leaves to various vegetable balls or patties. You may fry leaves quickly at high temperatures, which is typical of Asian cuisine.
Cauliflower chips?
You can make chips from cauliflower leaves and munch on them even if you are trying to lose weight. Remove the hard parts and cut leaves into pieces – the size of regular chips. Put a few drops of oil in a bowl and add your favourite spices. Put chopped leaves into this mixture and make sure to coat them well. Now, put them on a baking tray lined with a baking paper and bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 200 °C until crispy.
