Water orchids properly
If you water your orchid incorrectly, you will have a problem later. Improper watering is the most common cause of leaf yellowing, which can kill your plant if not corrected in time. However, the vast majority of people know how to water orchids correctly. The best way is to immerse the pot with the plant in water for twenty to thirty minutes, pull it out and let the excess water drain.
There are few things to watch out for when watering. Here they are:
Make sure to water at the right time
1. Water in the morning.
2. Watering frequency is once a week during winter and twice a week in summer.
3. Water orchids in small pots more often than those in large pots.
4. Dry surface of the substrate does not mean that you should water again as the layers below may still be moist. You can easily determine if you should water by using a pencil or a skewer.
Choose the right type of water
5. Rainwater is best because it collects dust, pollen and other organic materials that provide nutrition. Use tap water with caution. Boil it first and let it cool.
6. Always use a room temperature water. You may not see the negative effect of using cold water immediately but will disorders happen if you use cold water. If you do it all the time you may seriously harm you plant.

Watch the leaves
7. Be careful and avoid leaves. If water remains on leaves, wipe it off.
8. The spot where leaves and stem grow must be dry. If there is water, dry it with a paper towel.
9. Overwatering causes leaf yellowing and may even kill your plant. If you notice leaf yellowing or rotting roots, do not water for few weeks.
10. Make sure that the roots are not sitting in water. Pour water in the tray under the flower pot out.
