Make your own lawn fertilizer
Did your lawn recover from the winter yet? Well, if not, and your lawn still looks bad you need to take an action. Do not worry. You can help a lot of course and it is pretty simple. Use a homemade lawn fertilizer. Sure, you can buy commercial fertilizers but try making your own this time. You should have some of the ingredients at home anyway. The fertilizer will work great in spring and summer.
Beer
Beer is one of the most popular drinks and it is safe to say that we all hate to waste beer. A real beer drinker always finished the entire glass! But sometimes, you may have some left (after a party, for example) and you do not want to drink it or save it…So, if you have half-empty bottles with stale beer do not pour it out! Mix beer in 1:1 ratio with water and use it to water your lawn. The downside is that you may never have enough beer for the entire lawn so, it will work for smaller areas only…

Wood ash
If you have ash that comes purely from wood (no varnish, no paint), you can use it as a fertilizer too. All you have to do is to spread ash evenly over your lawn. By doing so, you will give your lawn minerals such as calcium, sodium, potassium and phosphorus. However, do not use ash too often because ash is very rich in calcium. Too much calcium may reduce the ability of your lawn to absorb other nutrients. If you see grass blades turning brown do not use ash. Use it two to three times during the season.
Compost
Compost is a great fertilizer not only for your lawn. The good news is that you cannot over-fertilize your lawn with compost. Just make sure to spread it evenly over the entire lawn. To have a high-quality compost you need a composter (or another source of compost). Unfortunately, it takes time to produce a high-quality and matured compost so, you had better find the time.
