Lovely and useful bumblebees
Bumblebees are hardworking creatures and you want them in your garden. So, to make sure they visit you, you need to create a home for them and make them feel welcomed. They are very important!
Bumblebees are common in the wild. Around spring times bumblebee queens emerge from the ground and look for a place to start family. They build quite small nests that hold from 150 to 200 bumblebees. Adult bumblebees are active for 6 to 8 weeks and when the autumn comes, they leave the nests and die. Only newly born mothers survive. These young queens are ready to start a new cycle again in the spring.
Bumblebees work in winter too!
Bumblebees are loved by gardeners because they know they are important for various crops. Unlike bees, bumblebees are active even when the temperature falls down to 5 °C and they can fly even in bad weather conditions, such as rain or wind. Bumblebees help plants to increase production of fruits by tens of percent, especially in flowering fruit trees and crop fields. If the weather is not suitable for bees, bumblebees go to work. The more pollinators you have, the better. It will pay off.

Invite bumblebees to your garden
A wooden box with a low entrance, with a tube similar to a path mice use, will do. These are places bumblebees seek. A good idea is to put moss, leaves, hay and a little rabbit litter inside to create the right home for them.
Have you heard about loyalty of bumblebees? Well, if you do not want to make a house for them, there are vendors that will sell you bumblebees with a nest. And what about the “loyalty”? Can bumblebees leave and settle in your neighbour’s garden? Do not worry. Bumblebees will remain with their queen.
