How to grow a great crop of cucumbers: All you need is grandma’s advice and some fertilizer
The time for sowing cucumbers is approaching. We can sow indoors as early as April, but we still have to wait quite a long time before sowing seeds outdoors. Either way, you will definitely find some interesting tips on growing this wonderful vegetable useful. Cucumbers require careful care and a sufficient supply of nutrients. We will focus on this in the following lines, and we will not forget to include some well-intentioned advice.
How to sow cucumbers step by step
First, prepare a sufficient number of small pots. Those with a diameter of at least 10 cm are ideal. Cucumbers do not tolerate transplanting, which is why small pots are best. The plants need space. Fill the pot with substrate and then press it down. Water it lightly with settled water and place one or two seeds at a depth of about 1 to 2 cm. Cover the seeds with substrate and press down lightly.

Further advice on growing cucumber seedlings
Place the pots with the cucumber seeds in a bright and warm place. The ideal temperature is between 20 and 25°C. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. The first sprouts will appear after about 7 to 10 days. The pot should now be placed in a sunny spot, ideally on a windowsill. After about 3 to 4 weeks, the plants will develop 2 to 3 pairs of true leaves. At this point, they can be planted in the garden, provided there is no longer any risk of frost.
Great onion fertilizer will help cucumbers
You can be sure of that. We will mainly need onion skins. A few other ingredients. Specifically, we need to have the following available:
- 0.5 liters of onion skins,
- 2 liters of water.
Put the onion skins in water and boil for about 10 minutes. Then let the mixture cool and dilute it to obtain a total of 5 liters of solution. Water the cucumbers with this mixture every day. The mixture is also excellent in a spray bottle. It protects plants from dangerous pests. Otherwise, cucumbers can also be fed with stale bread. It will also provide them with plenty of nutrients.
