Have you seen whiteflies in your greenhouse and terrace? Get rid of them!
You know very well that this perpetrator can destroy all your vegetables and even your ornamental garden, right? Here are few tips how to deal with this culprit and how to recognize it as soon as possible.
Whitefly in your greenhouse is a big problem
It is rather hard to miss whiteflies flying out when you touch plants, or the sticky honeydew, which covers the entire plant and promotes mould and attracts ants.
Most common places to find whiteflies
They like almost all kinds of vegetables. As for ornamental plants, it mainly lives on fuchsias, geraniums, petunias, lantanas and tomatoes grown in containers. It multiplies very quickly, so, if you see a white cloud of small butterflies when you enter your greenhouse, you have a problem. It does not mean that you have neglected proper care. Sometimes, just a few days is enough for whiteflies to multiply and cause problems.

How to get rid of whiteflies in your garden
Prevention is very important. Think about protecting your plants from whiteflies before planting them and add one or two plants that repel whiteflies. For example marigolds and watercress – whiteflies hate them.
You do not need to use chemicals. Use yellow sticky pads to detect the presence of whiteflies and to catch them. Spray with a greasy soap solution if you notice a moderate infestation. If you want to rely on commercial products, buy products designed to fight these pests and spray in five-day intervals. It is recommended to repeat spraying once every 14 days and continue doing so until the end of the season. Know that if you had whiteflies in the past they probably will visit you again.
