Get rid of slugs using good old methods
Slugs can destroy crops very quickly but there are few simple tricks you can use to get rid of them once and for all and it is not as difficult as it might seem.
Unfortunately, all of us know the feeling when slugs start eating our beloved plants, fruits and vegetables. If they multiply a lot it may indeed be very difficult to get rid of them. So, the most important thing is to keep the number of slugs as low as possible right from the start.
Getting rid of slugs
Effective tricks include various traps or mixtures that slugs avoid and hate. Here are few tips our grandmothers used to fight these little creatures and save harvest with almost no cost at all.
Ammonia
Ammonia is often used where the harvest is in full swing. Ammonia will help you to get rid of these uninvited thieves who love your fruits. 10% ammonia water should be enough. The good news is that ammonia is beneficial to plants while being highly toxic to slugs. Add 3 tablespoons of ammonia to 1 litre of water and you got it. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and use as usual.

If you find a spot where many slugs gather, spray it directly on them. They will suffocate and die and in few days you should find no trace of them. Slugs decompose quickly. You may also check drugstores and buy ammonia-based chemicals for few bucks. Do not forget to protect yourself when using ammonia,. Inhaling ammonia damages mucous membranes. Wear protective gloves, glasses, or even a mask. Try to take a breath few meters away from the spot where you spray.
Beer slug trap
Beer works great as a slug trap. Make a hole in the ground and insert a plastic cup in it. Place a few dandelions inside and pour beer in. Fill the cup all the way to the edge. Make sure the rim of the cup is at the ground level. You may pour and press soil around to make it more even. After few days you will find a lot of dead slugs.
Milk carton trap
Some chemical products may be rather expensive so, why not using something you have at home. Make a trap out of a milk carton. Use a milk container with a lid. Pour 250 ml of water, 250 ml of beer and 3 teaspoons of salt inside. Make few of them and place them around your garden. Slugs will crawl inside and will not be able to get out.
