Get rid of ants naturally

Ants

Ants could be very annoying especially, if they appear in places where you do not want to see them at all – such as in your bathroom. Unfortunately, human homes are loaded with many delicacies that attract ants. There are plenty commercial products you can use to get rid of ants but many of them are not safe for children and pets. You have several natural options, which are very effective too. Here we go.

Garlic

Garlic smells good and it is very healthy but some people cannot stand the smell of garlic and ants do not like the smell either. You can make an efficient and cheap ant repellent from garlic. Crush few cloves of garlic and put it in a glass with water and let it sit for 24 hours.Boil the mixture for about 15 minutes, strain and pour into a spray bottle and apply on spots where you see ants.

Rice

Sprinkle grains of rice on ant trails. Ants will take it to their anthill but after a while, the grains start ferment and create a fungus that kills ants.

Orange peel

Ants do not particularly like the highly aromatic smells of orange peel and you can use it to trick them. Cut the peel into tiny pieces or grate it and place it where ants gather. Ants will take the pieces to the anthill and just like rice after while the peel will produce a substance that will kill them.

Yeast

Place yeast near the anthill, or you can prepare a yeast drink for ants Mix 100 g of dried yeast and 100 g of sugar and one litre of water. Stir well until everything dissolves. Pour into small and very flat containers (jam lids, beer caps, etc.) and place where ants gather. The smell of yeast will discourage them and they should move away.

Pepper

Mix equal parts of ground pepper and water and pour into a spray bottle. Spray on spots where you see ants.

Baking powder

Ants hate baking powder. Ants actually die when they come into contact with it.

Wormwood

Bitter wormwood smell is a disaster for ants. Boil two litres of water with a handful of wormwood. After five minutes of boiling, drain and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Apply where ants gather.

Lemon juice

Even lemon that we all love is not appreciated by ants. It irritates them and they try to avoid it. Unfortunately, lemon juice only works for a short time and then the smell disappears. Squeeze juice from one lemon into a glass and add water. Pour in a spray bottle and spray and spray on ant trails.

Chalk

A common chalk (a special ant chalk is also available) repels ants. It contains calcium carbonate and ants do not like that. You do not want to use chalk indoors, but it works well outdoors. Sprinkle crushed chalk around plants to protect them from ants and slugs.
