Do you know how to fertilize a ficus benjamina
The ficus tree or weeping fig (Ficus benjamina), is a fairly popular houseplant. It is a beautiful plant but it tends to react strongly to changes that it does not appreciate. The reaction usually includes leaf shedding. That means, you need to keep picking leaves, but most importantly our beautiful weeping fig turns slowly into a sick plant. The good news is that it can produce new leaves almost as quickly as it loses them but it needs a little help to do that. Proper fertilization is very important and can prevent this problem.
Growing ficus
To avoid these problems you need to provide certain conditions that weeping fig likes. You need to remember that it grows rather quickly and it needs a pretty large pot. It also hates drafts or direct sunlight including very dry air (heating season is especially dangerous). All these can make weeping fig to shed leaves. Ficus benjamina does not like to be moved, so choose location carefully. If you manage to provide all the above, it should not be difficult to grow a healthy and strong weeping fig. Water regularly but only use little amount of water at a time. You can also spray leaves, especially during dry periods. Spraying will also help you to clean leaves from dust.

Fertilization
Ficus needs a fertile and nutrient rich soil. It only makes sense because it grows very quickly. You can use commercial fertilizers or you can make your own. Weeping fig needs a regular dose of universal multi-component fertilizer once every two weeks. Only fertilize once a month in winter. Try to use the following to help your weeping fig.
Homemade fertilization
Yeast : contains many beneficial substances (potassium and magnesium for strong roots). Mix a 1 cm cube of yeast with sugar in a cup and pour warm water in. Mix well and leave it in a warm place for a few minutes. When done, dilute the mixture with two litres of water and use it to water the plant.
Beer: mix equal amounts of beer and water and water the plant with this mixture.
Gelatine: contains a large amount of nitrogen, an element that is very important for green parts. Put one tablespoon of gelatine into a litre of hot water and mix well. Let it cool and add another litre of water. No you can use it to water your plant. Do not use this fertilizer too often. Once every two to three months is enough.
