Asian bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) is a plant that produces unusual flowers and attracts attention. Flowers resemble a heart. It is also very easy to grow and is almost frost-resistant. You do not need to cover it or protect it for the winter. Another advantage is that you do not have to buy the plant. If you know someone who already grows Asian bleeding heart, just ask. You can easily reproduce this plant by cuttings.

Suitable location

The ideal time to plant is autumn or spring but you need to be careful with watering. Asian bleeding heart hates summer droughts, but it does not like waterlogged soils either – which you may get in spring. So, consider these requirements before selecting the right location. It prefers a fertile soil that needs to be moist. A good idea is to work some compost into the soil before planting. Partial shade is ideal.

Asian bleeding heart is fully frost-resistant, so you do not need to cover it for the winter. However, if your plant is very young and you want to make sure it survives hard frosts, you can cover it. Use pine branches for example.
