How to cook the best sweetcorn? All it takes is a simple trick
Boiled sweetcorn is a delicious treat that’s definitely worth making. However, it doesn’t always turn out quite as we’d like. We’ve cooked it ourselves, and it certainly wasn’t complicated. Even so, our cooking did benefit from one little trick. It worked perfectly. So let’s take a look at how to prepare sweetcorn so that it’s delicious and appeals to everyone.
Choosing the right sweetcorn is important
We’ll start by choosing the right sweetcorn. You can choose either classic field maize or sweetcorn. The former is the more economical option, whilst the latter undoubtedly tastes better and is specifically intended for cooking and eating. Whichever option you choose, how you cook it is certainly important too.
The classic method for cooking maize
First of all, remove the husks and the fine silks that the corn is usually full of. Then wash it thoroughly and place it in salted water. Gradually bring the water to the boil. You can test the corn to see if it’s soft enough. If not, leave it to cook for a little longer before using the trick mentioned earlier.
Tip: How can you tell if a corn cob is ripe for cooking? It’s simple.

Milk and butter: the perfect flavour enhancers
Once the corn has softened, the decisive moment arrives. Add another 200 ml of milk and a knob of butter to the corn. About 100 grams or so. This gives the sweetcorn a much more intense flavour. We should continue cooking the sweetcorn like this for another 10 minutes or so. Thanks to these two ingredients, the sweetcorn will be perfectly tender all the way through. Milk and butter are also brilliant at bringing out the flavour. You’ll simply be savouring a perfect delicacy.
