Direct seeding in april: Yes. You need to know what and when
Who isn’t looking forward to finally planting some vegetables in the garden? Probably everyone in April. That’s why we’re going to take a look at direct seeding in April. Not everything can be sown directly into the ground. We should primarily base our decisions on soil temperature. The soil must be properly prepared for sowing. In the following paragraphs, we’ll focus on what should already be going into the ground, which crops shouldn’t, and many other aspects of direct April sowing.
Some crops definitely belong in the soil already
For which plants does April sowing make sense? Primarily those that can tolerate a somewhat cooler environment. A slow start is no problem for them. These crops traditionally include:
– carrots,
– parsley,
– radishes,
– peas,
– spinach,
– leaf lettuce,
– beets (in warmer areas).

It’s best not to sow these crops yet
In April, you may fail to a certain extent when sowing. Some crops can be quite risky. We shouldn’t sow yet:
– beans,
– zucchini,
– cucumbers,
– corn, and
– heat-loving herbs.
Although temperatures during the day and often at night rise well above freezing, the soil is not sufficiently warmed up. There is also a risk of waterlogging after spring rains. Seeds may simply lie there for a long time and rot.
How can you tell if the soil is sufficiently prepared?
Simply put, when squeezed in your palm, it doesn’t stick but crumbles. It doesn’t form a sticky ball, and the soil doesn’t feel cold.
