Cinnamon and vinegar: The perfect combination to keep insects at bay
Summer is already reaching the point where temperatures are approaching the infamous 30-degree mark. Many of us are already looking forward to swimming and spending time at the pool or by the water. It’s just as pleasant to sit under a pergola in the garden—that is, until mosquitoes and other pesky insects start swarming everywhere. You need to get rid of them as quickly as possible. Various household remedies can help us in this regard. If you have cinnamon and vinegar at home—which is highly likely—you’ve already won the battle against the insects.
Vinegar and Cinnamon: The Perfect Repellents
You might be wondering why these two ingredients in particular. The answer is quite simple.
Vinegar neutralizes odors
Let’s start with vinegar. Insects can’t stand its acidic smell. Vinegar can quickly change the pH of an environment, which is very unpleasant and lethal for most insect species. Vinegar is also excellent at removing various odors that would otherwise attract insects—such as sweet fruit juices and the like.
The Strong Scent of Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a strong scent and is also unpleasant to insects. It also offers antifungal and antibacterial effects. Among other things, cinnamon is antiseptic and simply repels mosquitoes and other pesky insects.
Tip: Cinnamon protects plants from mold. How to apply it?

Just a spray bottle, cinnamon, and vinegar
That’s all you need to make an insect repellent spray. Specifically, we’ve prepared:
– 200 ml of vinegar,
– 200 ml of water,
– 1 cinnamon stick.
Making this insect repellent is simple. Pour the water and vinegar into a bottle. Mix them thoroughly. Then add a whole cinnamon stick. Shake everything well so that the individual scents blend perfectly. Then you’re ready to apply the spray.
How to Apply the Solution Correctly
Ideally, spray the solution around window frames, doors, and thresholds. In short, places where insects are most commonly found. Of course, you can also spray it into the room. The scent will simply be everywhere insects shouldn’t be.
