Do you have weeds in your paving stones? Kitchen ingredients can help
Summer temperatures are here, and with them comes the growth of many crops and ornamental plants. We’ve been looking forward to all of this, of course, but not so much to the abundance of weeds that traditionally grow in lawns, flower beds, and between paving stones. The latter area is particularly prone to weeds. It’s no surprise—there’s both sand and soil between the individual pavers. Simply put, it’s a breeding ground for weeds. Getting rid of them isn’t always easy, but we’ve got some homemade tricks for you using various ingredients.
A simple homemade mixture of salt, vinegar, and dish soap
If you want to go for absolute simplicity, a homemade mixture made from just three ingredients is worth trying. They are:
– 1 cup of vinegar,
– half a cup of salt,
– 1 teaspoon of dish soap.
This weed killer for pavers will be ready in just a few minutes. Pour the salt into a container, add the vinegar, and then mix everything thoroughly so that the salt dissolves completely. Once that happens, add the dish soap. Close the container and shake it well. All the ingredients will combine.

Applying the Weed Killer
Pour the prepared mixture over the weeds on the sidewalk or along the path. You can also spray it using a standard spray bottle. In about 30 minutes, the weeds will literally fall away from the pavers, and you’ll have peace of mind. Be careful with colored pavers, as the mixture may discolor them. That would be very unpleasant, so it’s worth testing the mixture beforehand.
More Tips for Homemade Weed-Killing Mixtures
You can also find several other ingredients from household sources to use on weeds in pavers. Baking soda is one example. It works similarly to the mixture mentioned above, but you’ll need to wait longer—perhaps even a day—for the weeds to die. Bleach can also be used. Many of us get by with just a pressure washer or hot water. However, these purely natural methods are only effective in the short term.
