Grass clippings: Be sure to take advantage of this july treasure
This July is truly hot, and many plants need much more moisture. Among other things, we also need to adjust how we care for them so they receive as much of the moisture they need as possible. Mulching plays a very important role in this regard. That’s exactly what we’ll focus on in the following paragraphs. After all, we can gather a fairly substantial amount of grass clippings from the garden, which can be put to use without much trouble. It helps not only with the aforementioned mulching.
Mulching as the ideal use for grass clippings
Mulching is a tried-and-true method. Grass clippings are ideal for this purpose. A layer of mulch ensures that plants receive sufficient moisture. This reduces the frequency of watering. Additionally, it prevents weeds from growing through.Weeds often appear in large numbers when the main plants are watered.

For which plants can mulch made from grass clippings be used?
Strawberries are a classic example. Although straw mulch is more commonly used for them, it isn’t always available. Let the grass clippings dry out a bit, and then you can use them without any problem. They’re also excellent under raspberries, between rows of vegetables, or around arborvitae. In these cases, you practically don’t have to worry about the mulch at all.
You can grow potatoes in grass clippings
This use of grass clippings is ideal. Simply make mounds and plant the potatoes in them. Ideally, the potatoes should be covered with a layer of grass clippings at least 30 cm thick. Then they’re sure to thrive. The grass also contains bits of soil, which is helpful as well. We tried growing potatoes this way, and the results were remarkable.
Tip: No more hilling. You can grow potatoes in bags.
Add it to the compost anytime
Good compost acts as the perfect nourishment for many plants. Freshly cut grass is ideal for this. When mixed with other organic household waste, it creates perfect compost that will then help your plants.
