How to get rid of weeds without using chemicals
Weeds are undoubtedly the biggest enemy of every gardener. But can you deal with weeds without using expensive and harmful chemicals? Well, there is an option that utilizes good old methods of our grandparents but improved by a modern science.
It is usually not enough to pour vinegar on weeds or sprinkle salt on it. While both methods are effective, they are also quite time-consuming, but with the help of cleaver and handy tricks, you will have a much better leverage.
Homemade weed killers
You need three litres of regular vinegar. If you have it at home right now, then you have the basis for a weed killer. Add another glass of salt and two tablespoons of liquid soap (or use grated soap, but it will take longer to fully dissolve). When all is diluted and mixed, just pour it on weeds.
Choose a sunny day, preferably noon. – Strong sun will speed up the job and with a bit of luck you will not have to repeat the application again. However, it may not be enough for really stubborn weeds.

Alcohol for stubborn dandelions
However, a vinegar mix, does not matter how strong, may not be enough. If you are trying to get rid of dandelions between tiles where it is very hard to dig, then try another method. Mix two tablespoons of alcohol in two litres of water. It does not matter what type of alcohol you use, but it would be a shame to waste a homemade plum brandy. Now, add a tablespoon of detergent, mix it well again and pour it on dandelions.
Weeds between paving stones
As for weeds with shallow root system, you do not need strong killers to get rid of it. Baking soda is enough. Just sprinkle baking soda on weeds and watch it fade away. If you see young sprouting weeds, use a fine cornstarch. This should be enough to suffocate young weeds.
