Coleslaw is a salad that people enjoy eating in restaurants. It isn’t made at home all that often. It’s a shame, because it’s not at all complicated and doesn’t take much time at all. We gave it a go and ended up serving this salad with a delicious, juicy chicken steak. We’ll share the recipe with you, of course. It was basically a quick and easy dish that absolutely anyone can make.

Homemade coleslaw made with good-quality vegetables

The key to this salad is undoubtedly good-quality vegetables. If you have home-grown ones like we do, it’s a no-brainer. To make the salad, we needed:

– a quarter of a head of white cabbage,

– 2 medium-sized carrots,

– a large onion.

We sliced all the vegetables into very thin strips. It’s also possible to grate them, but then the pieces are very small and the salad doesn’t look as good. To these vegetables, we then added:

– a quarter of a teaspoon of salt,

– the juice of a whole lemon,

– 2 tablespoons of sugar,

– 4 teaspoons of mayonnaise,

– 2 teaspoons of whole-grain mustard.

We mixed everything together thoroughly so that the salad had a firm consistency and the individual ingredients blended perfectly. The result was brilliant.

Light chicken breast steak

It couldn’t be simpler. We made shallow cuts in the chicken breasts and gently fluffed them up with our hands so that the steaks were relatively thin. We then mixed them with:

– 2 tablespoons of oil,

– 5 crushed garlic cloves,

– fresh thyme from the garden,

– a pinch of salt.

We left the steaks to marinate for an hour and then grilled them for 3 minutes on each side. You can see the result for yourselves in the photos.
