You know how it is. You need to peel an egg quickly. You get stuck in, but suddenly the shell starts sticking right to the white, and a fair bit of the egg ends up in the bin along with the peeled shells. Not exactly a pleasant experience to look forward to. Peeling eggs can sometimes be quite a faff. That’s why it’s worth knowing a few tricks that can help. Thanks to them, you can avoid such annoyances quite quickly and effectively.

Ice cubes – a classic

Ice cubes are undoubtedly an excellent choice when peeling eggs. If the egg undergoes a thermal shock, it peels much more easily afterwards. Simply pop a few ice cubes into a pan of water and you’re sorted. Alternatively, it’s also no problem to peel eggs in very cold water. This also makes it easier to separate the white from the shell. Bear in mind the age of the eggs too. The older they are, the harder they are to peel.

Slightly salted water also helps

If you don’t want to bother with ice-cold water, it’s definitely worth adding a little salt to the water when boiling eggs. Once cooked, it’s a good idea to pour cold water over the eggs. Then you can be sure that even a small child will be able to peel them without any trouble.

Adding bicarbonate of soda is worth it

Another excellent trick for peeling eggs more quickly is to add bicarbonate of soda to the boiling water. Bicarbonate of soda raises the pH of the water, making it easy to separate the white from the shell. Simply add one teaspoon of salt and leave the eggs to boil. Once the required time has elapsed, cool the eggs and you’ll find they peel very easily.

Tip: Cheap and effective. Eggshells are brilliant for vegetable patches.

How to make perfect scrambled eggs and fried eggs?

It’s very simple. Just add a little cornflour to the eggs. This improves their flavour and speeds up the cooking process. Fried eggs are best cooked in a little butter. Four minutes is all it takes to get them just right.
