Mid-May: The perfect time to plant watermelons
When you look outside, it’s already pleasantly warm, and it’s hard to imagine any frosts returning. That’s one reason why it’s a good idea to plant many types of plants. Recently, growing watermelons has become particularly popular. Anyone can certainly grow delicious, sweet melons. Still, it must be said that growing melons undoubtedly has its own specific requirements that need to be taken into account. We will therefore focus on them in much greater detail in the following paragraphs. Of course, we won’t forget to include our own photos of planted melons.
It’s worth planting high-quality pre-grown seedlings
Many of us might think it’s better to grow a watermelon from seed. This isn’t the case, as watermelons have a relatively long growing season, so it’s much more advantageous to plant a high-quality, strong pre-grown seedling in the garden bed.
Watermelons require specific conditions
This is because they are a crop that is relatively demanding to grow. Above all, watermelons need plenty of heat. After all, they are traditionally grown in countries with much warmer climates. You can provide heat for the watermelons by placing black non-woven fabric around them, which will attract even more sunlight. Additionally, weeds won’t grow around the plants. Before planting watermelons, it’s also worth thoroughly loosening the soil in the bed and adding the necessary fertilizer.
Tip: You can do a lot of mistakes, when planting melons. There are certain rules to follow.

What fertilizer should you choose for melons?
Melons are quite demanding when it comes to nutrients. A balanced fertilizer is ideal, one that contains the right ratio of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and trace elements. Fulvic acids are particularly important. They improve the plant’s nutrient uptake, which is extremely important for watermelons. Like pumpkins, watermelons often thrive on compost and in areas where natural organic matter accumulates.

Important Watering
Watermelons are composed largely of water, so it’s no surprise that watering plays a very important role. The ideal frequency is once a day, or even once every two days, but the watering should be thorough. It goes without saying that you should use rainwater or settled water. Tap water is not suitable for watermelons.
