Do you love tomatoes? And why wouldn’t you? This wonderful vegetable can be enjoyed in thousands of ways. There are also countless varieties to choose from. We bought some Coeur De Boeuf tomatoes, also known as “Bull’s Heart.” This is a very popular variety of beefsteak tomato, characterized by fruits with traditional ribbing resembling hearts. The tomatoes can easily weigh up to 400 grams and are typically a crimson red color. In the following lines, we’ll try to summarize what makes these tomatoes special and how they tasted to us.

Beautiful, uniform fruits that don’t crack

It’s true. Just take a look at our photos. The Bull’s Heart is a tomato that looks absolutely stunning. Its shape is completely different from that of classic tomatoes. Among other things, it’s notable for not cracking. We can’t say that about many tomatoes. Take classic cherry tomatoes, for example—they crack quite often. It’s definitely worth growing them next to basil, which will protect the tomatoes.

A unique flavor in every way

The Bull’s Heart is also known for its interesting flavor. The tomato isn’t particularly sweet, at least when purchased. Its internal structure is also distinctive. When you look at a cross-section of the fruit, you’ll find that it’s somewhat hollow. Otherwise, this tomato was quite firm when cut. This variety is ideal primarily for fresh consumption, though it’s especially well-suited for cold dishes. It looks fantastic in salads.

Tip: Get rid of slugs using good old methods. They are best.

We decided to grow Bull’s Heart

That’s right. It’s a classic stake tomato, perfect for a vegetable garden. Seedlings are traditionally pre-grown from February to April. We now have the seedling in the vegetable bed. It was moved there after the last frosts. The soil temperature should be at least 15 °C. Tomatoes thrive in a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Support is absolutely essential for this variety. Classic stakes work great, provided you tie the tomato plant to them. Spirals may not be ideal due to the size of the fruit. They can bend.
