Do you have a huge harvest of bell peppers? Then we can only envy you. But perhaps you’re worried about how to store them. Bell peppers are relatively prone to rotting and to the development of various molds on their surface and inside. Storing them is therefore not as simple as it might seem. We’ll take a much closer look at storing bell peppers in the following paragraphs. The key is to ensure conditions that will help the bell peppers last without losing their aroma and flavor. These conditions can undoubtedly be created, and in a relatively simple way.

It’s best to store bell peppers whole

To maximize success, it’s best to store bell peppers whole. Any damage to their surface can lead to spoilage relatively quickly. This rapidly reduces the shelf life of bell peppers.

Watch out for toxic neighbors in the fridge

That’s right. Peppers should have a designated section in the refrigerator. Storing peppers alongside tomatoes and cucumbers isn’t ideal. This is because other vegetables release ethylene, which causes peppers to ripen faster and spoil.

Tip: Preserving peppers. They can also be combined with cucumbers.

Thoroughly washing and drying the peppers is key

Be sure to wash the peppers under running water before storing them. It’s also a good idea to dry them with a paper towel. This will remove any remaining dirt and reduce the risk of mold, which can ruin the peppers.

The paper towel and plastic bag trick

Dry the peppers and simply wrap them in a paper towel. This creates a protective layer that will perfectly absorb moisture. Then place the wrapped pepper into a plastic bag. The paper towel itself acts as a sort of buffer zone. The bag can hold up to two peppers without them getting squashed. Then seal the bag. This creates the ideal environment for the peppers. When you take them out after a while, they’ll be perfectly fresh and in great condition, ready to eat.
