Bay leaves in your wallet. Our grandmothers’ trick is interesting
Bay leaves are among the spices used quite frequently. In southern European countries, laurel grows as part of hedges, and you can pick as many leaves as you need. In our climate, it’s no problem to grow bay leaves as part of a herb garden, though we must cover them for the winter. They have a very hard time recovering from frost. Our grandmothers loved this spice, and many kept bay leaves in their wallets. Why did they do this, and how else can bay leaves be used? We’ll reveal all of this to you in the following lines.
For a great night’s sleep
Let’s start with sleep. Placing bay leaves under your pillow should help you fall asleep and improve the quality of your sleep. The aroma of bay leaves can calm the body and put it into a state of relaxation. People suffering from insomnia swear by bay leaves.
Moths don’t stand a chance
Bay leaves are excellent for fighting moths. Moths really don’t like the delicate scent of bay leaves and will disappear. Often, all you need to do is put a few leaves in your closet and you’re set. This saves you a lot of time and, ultimately, money that you would otherwise have to spend on various special products.
Tip: Bay leaves after winter. You can rescue them.
First Aid for a Cold
Although it may not seem like it, bay leaves can also help with a cold. Bay leaf tea, for example, is excellent. Add a handful of bay leaves to 200 ml of water. Boil until about three-quarters of the water has evaporated. Then strain the liquid and drink it. You can also make homemade syrup from bay leaves. All you need is 500 g of sugar, 250 g of lemon juice, and 15 bay leaves. Mix all the ingredients and simmer for about an hour. Then it’s good to take one tablespoon of the syrup daily.

Beautiful skin? Thanks to bay leaves
Nothing could be simpler. Crush the bay leaves in a mortar. Mix them with water and bring to a boil. Once cooled, apply the mixture to the skin using a cotton swab and let it sit.
Compress for insect bites
To make it, you’ll need:
– 50 g of bay leaves,
– 200 ml of alcohol.
Let the bay leaves steep in the alcohol for 24 hours, then add 400 ml of olive oil. Heat the mixture in a water bath for about 5 hours. Finally, strain it and store it in jars. Apply it to the affected area as needed.
