Hot days are coming: Pool filtration rules are changing
Here we go again. Very hot days are coming, with temperatures exceeding 30 °C. Nighttime temperatures won’t drop much below 20 °C either. For us gardeners, this means we’ll have to water our gardens more frequently. But that’s certainly not all. We’ll also need to take care of our backyard pools. The rules for filtering actually change quite a bit under these conditions. How? We’ll tell you in the following paragraphs and add a few more interesting tips.
How long should you filter the water in moderate temperatures?
Traditionally, the recommended range is between 6 and 8 hours a day. We filter for about 5 hours, and that’s more than enough. However, the temperature must not exceed 25 °C for extended periods, and at night it’s usually around 15 °C or lower. We divide the filtration into two intervals so that the pool filter isn’t running continuously for that relatively long period.
Tropical days change the rules
That’s right. The water temperature can easily reach up to 30 °C. That’s quite high, so it’s necessary to increase the frequency of water filtration as well. The duration should be extended to roughly 10 to 14 hours a day. This time can also be split in half, which we recommend. It’s no problem to filter at shorter intervals—even three times a day.

You can also calculate the duration based on your pool’s parameters
If you’re a stickler for details, it’s easy to calculate your pool’s filtration time. First, determine how many cubic meters (m³) of water are in your pool, as well as the filtration capacity listed on the filter’s label in m³. The pool volume is then divided by the filtration capacity and multiplied by two. This gives you the required number of times all the water in the pool must be filtered.
Tip: Is your pool water green? You might be making one of the common mistakes.
Don’t forget about other maintenance tasks
That’s right. Pool maintenance isn’t just about filtration. Another important aspect is adding pool chemicals. For us, it’s enough to have a 5+1 tablet in the float with various ingredients, including chlorine. It keeps the water clean throughout the entire season. Of course, you must also regularly skim debris with a net and vacuum the pool bottom.
