June care for lavender: Watering alone Isn’t enough

Lavender

Lavender is undoubtedly a beautiful flower that adorns the gardens and front yards of many of us. It’s no wonder, since it’s relatively low-maintenance. But if you think all it takes is watering it from time to time, you’re mistaken. Even lavender requires some care. Now, in June, certain tasks are very important. We will therefore focus on June lavender care in much greater detail in the following paragraphs.

Regular watering and protection from the heat as a foundation

Watering lavender is very important. It is not necessary to water the plants every day. During dry periods, however, more regular watering is needed—ideally deep watering right down to the roots of the lavender. Be careful, however, not to overwater the soil, as lavender loves well-drained soil. It does not thrive in waterlogged conditions. It is ideal to provide lavender with light shade during hot weather. It certainly deserves it.

Watch out for lavender pests

It would be a mistake to think that lavender is essentially an invulnerable plant that repels pests. Yes, many pests dislike the scent of lavender, but aphids and spider mites can easily destroy it. That’s why it’s worth using a remedy made from onion peels, for example. It will take care of the pests.

Lavender deserves some fertilizer

Definitely—it should be part of your June lavender care routine. It doesn’t have to be a strong fertilizer, but we can help the lavender. A small amount of garden compost is more than enough. To encourage blooming, use a fertilizer with minimal nitrogen content.

June: Time for pruning and flower harvesting

Haven’t pruned your lavender yet? June is the ideal time for the first pruning of lavender. All dry parts must also be removed. As for harvesting flowers for oils, cosmetics, and other purposes, June is the most suitable month. When in full bloom, the flowers contain the highest concentration of beneficial compounds.
