Summer is in full swing, and relaxing in the evening under the pergola or somewhere else is an integral part of it. Basically, we’re all looking forward to spending our free time outdoors. We make ourselves as comfortable as possible, enjoy the fresh air, and savor a delicious meal off the grill. But as dusk falls, that’s usually when it starts. The mosquitoes arrive and begin to bother us. Getting rid of them isn’t easy. Many repellents don’t smell very good, and they can be quite expensive. That’s why it’s best to rely on a simple lemon. Mosquitoes hate citrus

There’s no doubt about this fact. Citrus fruits contain a compound called limonene. It’s what gives them that very strong lemon scent. And that’s exactly what mosquitoes find so unpleasant. We actually enjoy this scent, but mosquitoes can’t stand it. So if we set out lemon slices specifically for mosquitoes, we can be sure it won’t be pleasant for them—not at all.

How do you set out lemon slices to repel mosquitoes?

It’s very simple. It’s perhaps the most basic repellent we can make. Slice the lemons into thin slices.Then simply place them around the interior. They’re most often placed right by windows and doors, but they’re also ideal on a table or anywhere else where mosquitoes fly. These slices are especially effective in outdoor seating areas. There, they’ll take effect practically immediately. Just keep in mind that the slices will gradually dry out, which will naturally reduce their effectiveness.

Why is lemon better than commercial repellents?

First and foremost, it contains no chemicals. We can be sure that the substances released by the lemon are purely natural. They’re also safe for small children and pets. We can place the lemon anywhere without any problems, confident that no one will be harmed. Unlike many chemical repellents, it gives off a pleasant scent that perfectly enhances the atmosphere in any garden setting.
