A great harvest is guaranteed. What to use to fertilize tomatoes in June
June is already halfway over, and you can definitely tell in the garden. You’re probably already checking on the fruits that are slowly ripening. Tomatoes are a prime example of this. After all, we already have plenty of plants in the garden beds bearing beautiful green tomatoes, just waiting for enough sunshine to gradually turn red so we can enjoy a great harvest. In June, we can certainly help the tomatoes with fertilizer. What nutrients are important for the plants, and how do you make homemade fertilizer?
Magnesium plays the leading role
The production of chlorophyll—the green pigment—is particularly important for plants. It is chlorophyll that contributes to growth. If tomatoes lack it, the plants remain relatively small, as do the fruits. That’s why it’s worth providing tomatoes with enough magnesium. It helps with chlorophyll production. We can recognize a magnesium deficiency in plants quite easily. A marbled pattern simply appears on the leaves, which is a bad sign. The edges of the leaves lose their green color and gradually turn brown. At this point, we need to pay close attention.

We added Epsom salt, and it helped
That’s right. Epsom salt is an excellent solution in this regard. It can provide a sufficient amount of magnesium. To make the fertilizer, we used:
– 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt,
– 10 liters of warm water.
We poured 10 liters of warm water into a container and then added a tablespoon of Epsom salt. We stirred the mixture thoroughly so that the salt dissolved completely. Then we were able to apply the fertilizer directly to the tomatoes.
Tip: Watch out for browning of tomato leaves. There can be several causes.
How to apply homemade fertilizer to tomatoes
It’s very simple. The solution must reach the roots of the plants directly. Basically, just as when you water tomatoes the traditional way—that is, at the roots. Each tomato plant deserves 2 liters of this fertilizer. It’s a good idea to water the plants first.
