Are they getting on your nerves yet? Cheap baking soda will help against ants

You know how it is. You step out onto the terrace and suddenly your legs start to itch unbearably. You tell yourself it could be anything and just scratch it a bit. But even that doesn’t work, and when you look at your leg, it’s clear. Ants have simply taken up residence on your terrace, and you’ll need to get rid of them as quickly and comfortably as possible. How? There are plenty of options, but you don’t need to reach for chemicals straight away – we opted for ordinary bicarbonate of soda, which did the job for us. How did we go about it? We’ll reveal that to you in this article.

Ants don’t like bicarbonate of soda; they can’t get past the barrier

Almost everyone has bicarbonate of soda at home; it’s used for baking. But it can also come in handy against pesky and annoying ants. It’s a purely natural remedy that’s harmless to everyone, and ants can’t stand it. First, we identified the ant trails and then sprinkled a thin layer of bicarbonate of soda near them. This disrupts the trails marked by the ants’ pheromones, leaving them confused. As a result, they no longer tend to venture into the areas where we don’t want them.

We created a simple bait

An excellent ant bait is very easy to make. We simply mixed one part bicarbonate of soda with one part sugar. These two ingredients are ideal for one simple reason. Sugar attracts ants with its sweet taste, and bicarbonate of soda kills them. This is precisely what they’ll carry back along their trails to the very heart of the colony. The bicarbonate of soda then disrupts their digestive system, and the ants don’t stand a chance.

A homemade spray can also help

Undoubtedly. It’s very easy to make. Simply mix bicarbonate of soda with water. Apply this spray to the ants’ trails and to the places where they live. This will disrupt their communication and cut off their trails. You can also use vinegar or essential oils, amongst other things.
