How to use vinegar in the garden? It speeds up germination and kills pests

Vinegar

Who doesn’t have plain vinegar at home. We can buy a bottle at the store for a few crowns. It’s especially good for flavouring food, but traditionally it’s an excellent cleaner and cleaning agent. But it will also find its place in the garden. There are many alternatives for its use. We bring you the most famous ones in the following lines. It costs almost nothing to try them out. That’s why we have tried the vinegar trick.

Speeding up seed germination

Some plants take a very long time to germinate and the wait for sprouts is often interminable. That’s why we mixed one part vinegar with nine parts water. We then soaked a piece of cheesecloth in this solution. On this we could then speed up the germination of some plants. In particular, I put the seeds on the gauze for a certain period of time.

For 24 hours the seeds were in the gauze:

– Dill,

– carrots,

– parsley,

– parsnips.

For 12 hours there were seeds in the gauze:

– Paprika,

– tomatoes,

– eggplant.

For 8 hours there were seeds in the gauze:

– cucumbers,

– pumpkins.

After the seeds themselves stay in the gauze, they are just dried and sown in the soil.

Cheap insect traps

Rescuing an orchard from an invasion of caterpillars or flying insects is a long-distance run. But if you mix a litre of water and 50 ml of apple cider vinegar and put this solution in a cut PET bottle, which you then hang on the tree. The smell will certainly attract the pests. It will then drown in the solution. If we change the solution frequently, we can get rid of a lot of insects without any problems.

Eliminating slugs

Even slugs don’t need vinegar. We sprayed the places where we already have radishes growing in the foil. The slugs have not returned and the unpleasant slimy trails they leave have disappeared.

Vinegar will help damaged trees

Vinegar is an excellent helper in this respect too. Damaged trees can be saved. Especially in the case of infestations of stone fruit trees, vinegar is the perfect solution. It is an excellent disinfectant, just like sage leaves.

Acidity doses for acid-loving plants

If we need to add acidity to the environment, we can use vinegar. Hydrangeas, rhododendrons and azaleas, for example, will appreciate it. Ideally, mix a cup of vinegar with 4 litres of water and then water with this solution.

Removing grass and weedy plants

We don’t exactly want grass in such a pavement. You can use vinegar on any other weedy plants as well. Just spray the spots with a spray bottle of vinegar solution and you’re all set.

Ants and pests don’t need vinegar either

Mixing a 1:1 solution of vinegar and water is ideal. This spray will certainly deter ants. The strong smell of vinegar is literally a deterrent to them. But neither do rodents, dogs, cats or snakes need vinegar.
