Plants feel human emotions. They also talk, scream and communicate with each other

Plants

Plants have been living with us since the very beginning and we all know that they are gentle creatures even though they do not speak or move the way we do. But it turns out, they can also feel… According to scientists, some plants can sense human emotions. They can even detect our intentions. American scientist Cleve Baxter claims in a study called Primary Perception: Biocommunication with plants, living foods, and human cells that when you approach forest with an axe and a saw, trees know what you are about to do. He did a completely unique experiment and the results are very interesting.

Experimenting with dracaena

Dracaena is a strong plant that can deal with bad conditions well. Maybe that is why Cleve Baxter had it in his office and decided to experiment with it. He attached polygraphic electrodes to its leaves to monitor reactions. He watered the plant and recorded the reaction, but he went even further. He decided to harm the plant and soaked one of its leaves in a hot coffee. The plant did not react, but when he took out a box of matches and lit one and burn one leave the device recorded a strong reaction! The plant only calmed down when he put the box of matches away.

Dracaena as a pet

Thanks to these results, many people began to treat dracaenas as pets. They began to talk to them, sing to them and take care of their overall well-being. Sure, the scientific community was rather sceptical at first and the study did not convince scientists at first.

Plants scream

Another study was done by scientists at the University of Bonn and they discovered that plants actually scream when exposed to a pain. We humans cannot hear that but a laser microphone can. When you cut a stem or leaf, the plant releases ethylene gas and scientists were able to vibrate these molecules with the help of specially calibrated lasers and used microphones to record vibrating molecules. The greater the stress, the louder signal was recorded. What is interesting is that healthy and happy plants seem to make a bubbling sound.

Trees communicate with each other

Suzanne Simard, a forest ecologist at the University of British Columbia, noticed bright white and yellow fungal filaments on forest ground and concluded that trees use these filaments to pass nutrients to each other, depending on which tree needed nutrients most. For example, large trees helped smaller trees that would not have been able to grow without additional nutrients. Isn’t that something?
