Health benefits of strawberries

You may use leaves to cleanse your body, dilute phlegm so you can cough it out easier or to reduce inflammation of oral cavity. Tea made from dried leaves is very tasty and it is often a part of commercial herbal teas. Collect leaves and petioles in the morning after dew has dried out. Use a basket or a paper bag to keep the moisture in. Strawberries that grow in the sun contain more beneficial substances and if you dry them you lock the good stuff in. The fruit is good for stomach and crushed leaves help heal wounds.

Growing strawberries

Even though strawberries are perennials, it is always a good idea to grow new seedlings, because after the first year the fruit quality decreases. Wild strawberries like the sun, but they tolerate partial shade well. You can grow wild strawberries in a flower bed or in a flower pot – a hanging pot or on a windowsill. Plant individual seedlings in 30×30 cm pattern and keep the soil moist. If strawberries have to go through a dry period, they will stop producing fruit.
