Do you love cutlets? Of course you do! Chicken, pork, and veal cutlets are absolutely delicious. We often make so many that we can’t finish them all in one sitting. Nothing unusual about that. We can save them for later. They’ll always come in handy. But if we reheat the cutlets and end up with rubbery pieces instead of a crispy treat, the smiles on our faces will quickly fade. That’s exactly why it’s important to know the right method to reheat cutlets so they’re perfectly crispy and tender. So how do you do it?

Why do cutlets become chewy when reheated?

The reason is quite clear. It’s all because of the breadcrumbs, which absorb moisture. Unfortunately, this happens quite often. What’s more, when reheating cutlets, we often cover them with a lid or aluminum foil, which is, of course, a mistake. The steam simply must not get trapped in the breadcrumbs and turn the crust rubbery. Ideally, hot air should circulate as evenly as possible around the entire cutlet.

Tip: How to defrost meat in 5 minutes. Its easy.

Take the cutlets out of the refrigerator in advance

First and foremost, take the cutlets out of the refrigerator and let them rest at room temperature for about 15 minutes. This will prevent them from being too cold, allowing them to heat up relatively quickly and evenly, even in the center.

How to properly reheat cutlets in the oven

Preheat the oven to 200 °C. If your oven has a convection setting, be sure to turn it on. Place the cutlets on a metal rack with a baking sheet underneath. This allows the hot air to circulate perfectly and prevents the cutlets from becoming soggy on the bottom. You can make the cutlets even crispier by lightly spraying them with cooking spray. Thin cutlets take about 10 minutes to reheat—5 minutes on each side. They should be eaten immediately after removing them from the oven.

Avoid reheating in the microwave

That’s right. There’s no effective advice here. The cutlets reheat unevenly and often end up simply rubbery.
