We performed manual verticutting of the lawn. The sod was worth it

Spring is the ideal time for lawn verticutting. In many places, the temperature is already regularly above 10 degrees Celsius, so it’s not a bad idea to give your lawn a little help in spring. Verticutting your lawn is not an obligation. The lawn will thrive anyway. But if you really want to keep it in shape, then go for it just like we did. We’ll take you through our work in more detail, and you can certainly see everything in the photos.

The turn of March and April as an ideal time

Exactly. We simply felt that there was nothing to wait for. The heat is sufficient and the grass is not yet high. Otherwise, verticutting would be more difficult. We opted for a verticutting rake for the lawn. We really have minimal area to necessarily have to drive a conventional electric verticutter. Even so, we managed to aerate the lawn perfectly. How did we proceed?

Pruning perpendicular to each other

First, we raked the lawn in one direction along the individual strips. Then we moved to another spot and added regular strips perpendicular to the existing strips. Basically, we created a sort of grid in many places. Especially in the places with more moss, we really worked hard, as the layer of felt, moss and other debris was quite large.

We were not afraid to go deeper

Especially in the moments when the moss was really visible. We decided to remove it completely from the lawn. Of course, it is clear that new moss will grow, but the more moss that is gone, the better it is logically. Some places looked as if they were bare. But logically, by reseeding the lawn afterwards, we filled them in quite a bit.

Tip: The rules of lawn verticutting are not complicated. You can do it without any problems.

The rake often bent under pressure.

This should also be pointed out. If you buy a classic cheap rake for verticutting, you can be sure that it will bend. The solution is probably to dig up the lawn with a conventional rake and then use a verticutting rake. Otherwise, you can buy a better quality branded verticutting rake. But we always bent the rake back and it was fine. Our lawn is now ready.
