This ancient and great-looking tree may decorate your garden
The rowan tree (or sorb tree) is a deciduous tree that lives up to 300 years in colder climates but in southern Europe it may reach up to 600 years! It can grow up to 15 meters tall if it grows alone, but in a forest it may reach 30 meters! A well-established and strong tree can produce up to 300 kg of fruit! You can eat it directly, if you like bitter taste, but to reduce the bitterness people usually make jams and juices from berries, sometimes in combination with other fruits.
Introduction
If you decide to grow rowan tree, you need to have a large space. It is not a tree that you see everywhere. If you find one, it will be in lowlands. Rowan tree comes from southern Europe, northern Africa, Asia Minor and the Caucasus. It has a nice, dense, wide and rich crown. If it grows in a shade it will be a very small tree and it will “turn” into a shrub. The young shoots are olive grey and mossy in appearance but later become bare and olive-brown.

Description
The shiny and bare buds, on the other hand, are coloured green and are characterized by darker edges of the scales and lobed individual leaves of the plant, which have a wide egg shape and reach a length of about 10 cm. The wood is reddish-brown and a slightly granular in structure. It is not a tree that is difficult to grow; it will grow in quiet and sheltered places.
Flowering
The tree produces white flowers which later develop into small spherical reddish-to-yellow fruits – berries. As they ripen, the colour turns brown with light spots. Each berry contains four seeds.
Growing requirements
Rovan tree grows well in moderately fertile, permeable, alkaline soil. It deals well with frosts and droughts. It is also relatively resistant to various pests and diseases however, that does not mean that it will not be attacked. Check trees regularly. You do not need to worry about any special care but you need to prune and you should do so twice a year. The important thing is to get rid of diseased and damaged shoots. Young trees need to be watered.
