Do not throw away water where you boiled eggs

Eggshells

People and especially smart gardeners have been using eggshells for a long time. Eggshells are a great natural fertilizer and they can also help you to fight slugs and snails. But what about the water where you boiled eggs? Yes, the vast majority of people simply pour it in the sink but that is a shame because this water may still be used for something good! You can use it to water your houseplants and reduce water waste.

Benefits of eggshells

Eggshells contain a lot of micronutrients that your plants love. The most important is calcium. We all know that calcium is necessary to maintain strong bones and teeth, and the same is true for plants. Our body needs calcium to support muscle function and to properly conduct nerve impulses. It supports the endocrine system, it is necessary for proper blood clotting and increases absorption of other nutrients, including vitamin B12. Eggshells also contain zinc, iron, phosphorus, copper, manganese, chromium and fluorine.

Boiled “egg” water

When you boil eggs all these nutrients are released and remain in the water (in smaller concentrations of course). If you can, keep the eggshells too. You may crush them and use for your plants. Use the egg water to water your houseplants and to enrich the watering process with extra nutrients. We assume, that you do not put any salt or seasoning in the water. Some people put salt to prevent eggs from cracking. If you do, do not use it. Use only room temperature water of course.

Strong nails

You can strengthen and brighten weak, brittle and dull-looking nails by using egg water. Soak your nails in the water for a few minutes (before watering your houseplants for example). Do this for several days and your nail should improve.
